North of Arriba, Colorado June 4, 2014. To position myself for this shot I was required to navigate 30 miles of unpaved farm road made wet and muddy by storms earlier in the day. My biggest fear was getting stuck and spending the night out there miles from help. Furthermore, I observed a tornado in this storm and my position was directly downstream which meant if I got stuck in a watery ditch I’d have to face that threat as well. Fortunately I was able to complete the nerve-wracking voyage back to pavement and today I can enjoy the memory and spectacular structure of this beautiful storm. I filmed a movie of this storm and you can watch it below.
